Sheila May – 58′ Trad 2001 Paul Simpson
Sheila May is a 58’ ‘go anywhere’ traditional style narrowboat in good condition. She was built in 2001 by Paul Simpson on a Liverpool shell and she is full of character. As a liveaboard she has passed the test of time. She has been home to the current owners since launch! He is a mechanical and electrical engineer, so she has been very well looked after in these departments.
The cratch covered well deck leads into the saloon. This is large at 13’ and has the solid fuel stove, two leather captains chairs, a chest with cupboards and drawers and the TV which has satellite hook up. A large side hatch, with clear insert panels, offers light and air.
The galley area offers so much storage; there are cupboards and drawers everywhere. Utilities comprise of a 12v fridge / freezer, 4 burner gas hob, oven & grill and sink with draining board. There is a houdini hatch over.
The bedroom is midships hosting a 6’6” long double bed, two large wardrobes and a chest of drawers. The calorifier, and lots of storage, sit under.
The bathroom sits on the starboard side with shower over bath, a ceramic counter top sink and Thetford cassette loo (with two spare cassettes). Opposite the bathroom is a large airing cupboard which sits over the full size washing machine.
The back cabin is the traditional arrangement with cross bed and the usual cupboards surrounding it. Under the bench seats is a vast storage area down to the baseplate. The stove was removed to provide an additional storage area. The tumble dryer is probably the less traditional addition to this room!
She is highly specced; 230v power is from one of two landlines, the 1600w inverter or the 4kw Travel Power generator. She has two 260ah AGM deep cycle batteries (new in 2016), lighting is all LED, she is fully wired for solar panels including MCCP controller (but panels need to be added). The water tank is huge at over 900 litres.
She is propelled by the very well maintained Beta 43 and central heating is from the Alde Comfort gas boiler. This also provides hot water, as does the engine.
She is ready for immediate use and will make somebody a charming and charcterful abode.
