Plato – 70′ Tug Deck 2006 R W Davis
Plato is a well crafted 70’ traditional tug style narrowboat built in 2006 by R.W. Davis & Sons. She has been extremely well looked after, and benefits from 2pack epoxy blacking in April 2022. She is fitted out in light painted ply and tongue and groove throughout, with a traditionally painted boatmans cabin at the aft.
Entering from the tug deck, the saloon is 12’4” with a large sofa bed (with storage under), and a Hobbit multi fuel stove. Side hatches either side bring in additional light and fresh air.
The forward steps slide across on runners, giving access to the bedroom under the tug deck. The bed is 6’5” x 5’4” at its widest point, with a small cupboard at the head end.
Moving aft, the 9’2” galley follows. The Heritage Uno diesel range takes centre stage, as well as a unique copper sink recessed into English walnut worktops, with a range of cupboards, shelves and drawers for storage. A starboard side hatch brings in more light too.
Next is the off-corridor bathroom (6’3”), with a Seperett compositing loo, recessed metal sink, square shower enclosure, and vanity cupboard.
A utility room follows, with 2 hanging rails over head for clothes, an LG 6kg washing machine, and a range of baskets and shelves for storage. The complex boat electrics are easily accessed from here as well.
The engine room shows off the Gardner 4L2 engine, as well as housing a 5kva built in generator. Side hatches either side bring in additional light and fresh air.
The 9’6” boatmans cabin is traditional in style, with scumbled paintwork, fold down double berth, Epping stove, and a range of storage options. Steps lead out onto the stern deck.
She is centrally heated by the Heritage Uno diesel fired range, connected to 2 Victorian style radiators. This also heats the hot water.
As mentioned, the electrics on board are top of the range. A bank of Victron Lithium batteries (300ah/24V system) are charged via a Victron SkyLLa charger, and topped up by 750w of solar, with a Victron MPPT solar charge controller. There are separate batteries for the engine and generator. 240v power is via a Victron 3kw inverter charger, or Northern Lights Genset. A Victron isolation transformer is also installed.
Plato would make an ideal liveaboard home, with so much space to make your own!
