Mistral – 60′ Trad Roger Farringdon/Original Owner 1989
Mistral is a charming 60’ traditional stern narrowboat built in 1989 by the highly regarded Roger Farringdon and fitted out, rather nicely in my opinion, by the original owner.
The cratch covered well deck has been cleverly modified; the sides unbolt and drop down to allow easier access for those with restricted movement. The water tank and storage is under.
Steps lead down into the saloon. This feels very cottagey and the fit out is pine T& G to the ceiling and cabins sides. The hull sides are oak, and the floor is carpeted. There is a two seater sofa in here along with two further comfy chairs all around the Morso Squirrel solid fuel stove. There is a 12v TVand various storage options.
The galley is next and utilities comprise of a four burner gas hob, oven & grill, a sink, a 12v fridge with icebox and plenty of storage. There is even a spin dryer hidden away in a cupboard, and a side hatch adds light and air.
The cosy bedroom follows. The fixed double is 6’2”x4’ and has storage under (the portable washing machine is under here). There is a wardrobe and a dresser at the foot of the bed, shelves over the head end and cupboards opposite under the gunwales.
The bathroom is aft of the bedroom & sits off corridor. The shower is positioned over the bath, the loo is a pumpout and the basin is counter sunk plastic with storage underneath.
A door leads into the engine room. The engine is a Russell Newbery D series and there are side hatches both side and a pigeon box over. The batteries (200ah Lithium for the domestics & a starter) are on the port side. There are plenty of tools tucked away as well. Propulsion is aided by the bowthruster.
The stern cabin is very traditional. The cross bed is only a single berth but with the bench, this could accommodate two children to sleep.
She is centrally heated by a Webasto diesel boiler and water is heated by the engine or the Webasto. There are 400w solar plus a smaller solar panel for the bowthruster batteries. 230v is from the 750w inverter.
She is a well loved and charming boat and will make a lovely home or holiday pad.
