Further – 48′ Trad 1988 Castlefield Marine
Further is a charming 48’ traditional stern narrowboat built in 1988 by Castlefield Marine. She has been lovingly refurbished by her current owner, making great use of reclaimed timbers from a country manor. This blends well with the light painted interior, and mix of tiled and oak flooring. She also benefits from a very recent blacking and survey in April 2023.
She has an unusual layout, stepping down from the bow into the 4’4” bathroom. This is a great place to get out of wet clothes before entering the boat proper. There is an Adventuridge Portable loo, on runners for easier access to the enclosed shower area, and a ceramic wash basin.
Bi-fold doors lead into the 9’0” galley. There is a Spinflo Caprice MKIII oven, grill & 4 burner gas hob, large stainless steel sink, breakfast bar, and a range of cupboards for storage. There is potentially space for a slimline fridge, or continue to make use of the recessed cold store under one of the existing cupboards. A starboard side hatch, with roof hatch, brings in additional light and fresh air.
Next is the 10’8” saloon, with a comfortable sofa (room for a sofa bed), Turtle solid fuel stove, and a port side hatch. A circular wooden archway divides the space, with a small desk/office area to the aft.
The bedroom is 7’0”, with a fixed 6’4” x 3’10” double berth. There is a shelf over, and storage under, with some electrics in a slim cupboard to the head of the bed.
Stepping up, the engine room houses the Kingfisher KD26 2 cylinder engine, which was last serviced in Summer 2022.
The bank of 3x 110ah domestics, with separate starter are also housed here, along with a Victron 350w inverter, unbranded 1000w inverter, and Mascot 3 step charger. The batteries are topped up by 400w (estimated) of solar, with a Victron MPPT solar charge controller, and monitored by a Victron Battery Monitor.
The lighting onboard is mostly LED.
There is currently no central heating on board, but the midship solid fuel stove will keep you warm on chilly nights. Hot water is supplied by a Morco gas boiler only.
