Fleur de Lys – 61′ Trad 1991 Johnathan Wilson / MCC
Fleur de Lys is totally charming and a beautiful example of a very well cared for narrowboat. She was built in 1991 by the highly regarded Jonathan Wilson Midland and fitted out by Canal Centre. She is 61 foot in length and traditional in style with a separate engine room and a delightful boatman’s style cabin at the stern.
The well deck has cratch cover over (new in 2019) and leads into the comfortable saloon. The boat is fitted out in Sapele T&G and oak faced ply with Sapele trim and she has a solid oak floor throughout. A couple of comfortable captains style leather chairs with footstools provides the seating, the stove is an Aga Little Wenlock, the 22“ TV sits on top of a cupboard and shelving runs along the full length of the starboard side. A fold up dining table is also neatly stored under the gunwales.
The galley is walk through in style and a good size at 9 foot in length. Cooking facilities are provided by the New World 4 burner gas hob, oven and grill, the fridge is a 12v shoreline with ice box (separate freezer cleverly pulls out from under the wardrobe in the bedroom) and there is a Beko washing machine sitting under the attractive oak block worktops. Plenty of cupboards and drawers provide more than adequate storage and a houdini hatch and side hatch with steps and roof hatch let in loads of light and air. Next comes the cabin with the fixed 4’ x 6’ 2” double berth. There is storage under together with a couple of good size cupboards and a spacious wardrobe at the foot of the bed.
The engine room follows, housing the impressive Beta Marine BD3 Tug engine. There are side hatches on either side to enable the new owners to show off the engine to maximum effect and plenty of shelves for storage of all the engine maintenance essentials.
The boatman’s cabin is last. The woodwork in here is lovely; the cross bed offers a second double bed on board, there is a traditional fold down table and plenty of cupboard space in here. The Premier stove is in very good condition.
Central heating is provided by a Webasto diesel fired central heating system heating two radiators and fin rads in the saloon. Hot water comes from the engine, the Webasto or the immersion (when on landine). Lighting is all LED, there is a 1600w inverter, 250w of solar and a Honda generator stored in a locker in the well deck. There is also a 22” Crowther propeller.
A boat full of charm and character, with nothing to do to her but move on, start the engine & go!
