Far Canal – 55′ Trad 2000 Mike Heywood
Far Canal is a charming 55’ traditional stern narrowboat built in 2000 by Mike Heywood. She has been lovingly fitted out by her original owner in a mix of light textured wallpaper, oak ply, and oak trim. She is well prepared for sale, with shiny paintwork, a recent survey (June 2023) and 2 pack epoxy blacking at the same time.
Steps lead down from the cratch covered well deck into the 10’ 6” saloon. There is plenty of space for comfortable armchairs or a sofa bed if required, to enjoy evenings by the solid fuel stove.
A fixed L-shaped dinette bench (converts to spare double), with 2 different sized demountable tables sits towards the galley, with a 12v TV/DVD combo mounted on the wall. A range of shelves and space under the bench provide ample storage.
Next is the 7’4” galley, with a 12v Shoreline fridge (with icebox), Cannon Connemara 4 burner gas hob, oven & grill, stainless steel sink, and heaps of cupboard space. A starboard side hatch brings in additional light and fresh air.
The 5’4” off-corridor bathroom features a Thetford cassette loo (with spare cassette), ceramic wash basin, and a hip bath with shower over.
Following this, the bedroom features a fixed 6’2” x 4’0” double berth with cupboards over, and drawers under.
The engine room (large at 6’3”) features more cupboards for storage. This is where you could potentially house a washing machine if required. The Ford XLD engine is housed here, with steps leading out onto the stern deck.
12v power is supplied by 3x domestics with a separate starter, topped up by an estimated 200W of solar. There is also a Sterling alternator charge controller, along with individual Powerline and ProBudget battery chargers. 240v power is via a Sterling ProPower Q 1800w inverter, or landline.
She is centrally heated by a Webasto diesel fired boiler connected to 3 radiators and a towel rail. Hot water is via a Cointra instant gas water heater, the engine, Webasto or immersion.
Lighting onboard is LED throughout.
She is a lovely boat, and with a few homely touches she could make somebody a great floating home!
