Ethel May – 62′ Trad Stern 2018 Tim Tyler/Owner Fit Out
Ethel May is a charming 62’ traditional stern narrowboat built in 2018 by the highly regarded Tim Tyler. She was launched in mid 2019 after being fitted out by the current owner. She is in lovely condition.
The well deck is a good size at nearly 5’, and has the stainless steel water tank underneath. The two 6kg gas bottles area in the forward locker.
Steps lead down into the spacious saloon. There is a very comfy two seater sofa with a wall mounted TV/DVD opposite, and a cupboard for storage. There is a solid fuel stove by the front door.
The galley is next, and at over 8’ long offers plenty of storage space and work surface. Utilities comprise of a 4 burner gas hob, oven & grill, a stainless steel sink (with filtered drinking water tap), and a 12v fridge with icebox. At the forward end of the galley there are two mini breakfast bar areas, one on each side of the boat, for dining.
The bedroom has a fixed double (6’3”x4’). At the foot of the bed sits a large chest of drawers and there are a couple of cupboards over the head end with reading lights under.
The bathroom is a walk through arrangement and has a good sized quadrant shower, a counter top ceramic basin and the loo is a macerator pumpout. The tank has a very large holding capacity.
The engine room follows. She is propelled by a Lister HRW2 which came off a 1969 lifeboat. It was completely rebuilt prior to installation in Ethel May. The gearbox is a PRM 260, and the controls consist of a traditional speed wheel and gear shift is a rather quirky Victorian toilet handle! The bank of 3 domestic batteries and starter are in here.
The stern cabin offers plenty of storage and work surfaces and could be a useful workshop area or could be modified into an office area. A washing machine could be put in here with the removal of one of the cupboards.
Steps lead up onto the rear deck.
She is centrally heated by a diesel fired Webasto boiler, and hot water is heated by the engine or the Webasto. There are 350w of solar and all the lights are LED. She was Epoxy 2 packed at launch.
She is a lovely boat; clean, tidy and very presentable and will make a lovely home or holiday vessel.
