Doubting Thomas – 55′ Trad 2003 Barry Hawkins
Doubting Thomas is a beautiful 55’ traditional stern narrowboat built in 2003 by the highly regarded Barry Hawkins. The cabin sides were repainted this year, the fit out is oak and she is in very good condition both inside and out.
Her sleek bows house the gas bottles, and the well deck is large at 4’ 8”; the 600 litre stainless steel water tank is housed underneath and there are storage lockers / bench seats either side.
This leads into the huge (14’2” long) saloon. This is open plan and has room for armchairs or a sofa bed. The floor is solid oak and there is a solid fuel stove in the corner along with shelves and cupboards down the starboard side.
The walk through galley follows; the utilities comprise of an eye level oven & grill (new), a 4 burner gas hob (new), a 12v fridge with icebox, a stainless steel sink and a washing machine. The worktops are solid oak and there is an abundance of storage space. A side hatch over the sink provides views for the washer-upper!
The bathroom sits midships; the loo is a pumpout and the shower cubicle is a stylish tiled arrangement with glass bifold door. The sink is ceramic.
The bedroom is generously proportioned at 9’ long and houses the fixed double bed (6’2”x4’) with reading lights and a cupboard over, a large double wardrobe at the foot of the bed and a little dressing table on the starboard side.
A door leads through into the stern cabin which houses the electrics, more cupboards and the engine sits under.
She is propelled by a Barrus Shire 45hp with only 800 hours on the clock; central heating is a diesel fired Webasto to 3 radiators, all the lighting is LED and 230v is supplied by either the 1.2kw inverter, the landline hook up point or the 3.5kw Travel Power generator.
She is in first class condition; she has just been re-blacked (and six new anodes added) and the engine has just been serviced.
She is ready to go and will make someone a beautiful home or holiday boat with little to do but turn the key and go.
