Chusan – 56′ Semi trad 2005 G&J Reeves
The SS Chusan was a British ocean liner and cruise ship, built for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company’s Indian and Far East Service in 1950.
This Chusan is a somewhat smaller vessel, a 56’ Semi trad narrowboat built by G&J Reeves in 2005. She was fitted out by her owner.
Externally the paintwork is in good condition, she has just been blacked and had a hull survey and inside she is in need of some modernisation, but this has been factored into the price.
The semi trad deck, with tonneau, has the gas in the port side locker and storage on the other. The engine is under the deck boards, a Beta 43, regularly maintained. The battery bank (4x domestics, new in 2019), is in here.
Steps lead into the boat. There is a small utility room at the back housing the full size washing machine. Steps lead down to the corridor off which sits the bathroom. This has a Thetford cassette loo, a pedastal ceramic basin and a tiled quadrant shower unit. A bank of shelves sits over the calorifier.
Moving forward, there is a wardrobe area. this also houses a 230v fridge and offers lots of storage. The bedroom is next. The bed is 6’3”x4’ and has storage under and cupboards over each end. Another walk in wardrobe area, with a separate freezer underneath the shelves, follows.
Into the galley. This is spacious with a side hatch on the starboard side and houdini hatch over. The boat is gas free, so utilities comprise of another fridge, a microwave oven, an induction hob, a Visiacook 230v Halogen cooker, a sink and plenty of storage. There is also a gateleg dining table with storage drawers in it.
The forward cabin is the dinette / saloon area. The dinette offers a dining area (does not convert to a bed) and has storage under. With additional stools, you could seat six comfortably. There is a wall mounted TV/DVD and a Morso Squirrel solid fuel stove. Steps, through wide front doors, lead to the cratch covered well deck. The forward locker, which used to house the gas bottles, is just for storage.
The water tank is stainless steel, and the water is heated by the engine or the immersion heater.
For 230v, there is either a landline or a Dometic Travel Power 3.5kw generator. There is also 255w of solar power and a Galvanic Isolator. All the lighting is LED.
A well built, solid boat in need of some work but priced to sell.
