reduced £39,950. 55ft Willow Wren/HT Fabrications cruiser stern narrow boat for sale. 2006. This boat has 6 berths and is highly flexible in that there is a permanent double in the centre cabin, with the option for a further double or two singles in the aft cabin and also a double or two singles in the saloon, making it an ideal family boat. Launched in 2005, the owners sponsored her as a part of the Rugby based Willow Wren hire fleet. They are now selling and having a new sponsor boat built for the fleet. The boat is in good condition – not a battered old boat at the end of its life in other words – with a decent shell from Leicester based HT fabrications with the interior fit in oak with hardwood trim by Willow Wren. Heating is provided by a Webasto diesel fired central heating boiler feeding radiators throughout, and if desired it would be possible to have a stove installed in the corner of the saloon. An inverter is fitted for occasional appliance use such as hairdryers and vacuum cleaners, and the galley is equipped with a full size cooker and 12v fridge. Propulsion derives from Beta marine 4 cylinder diesel unit.

£69,950. 58ft Braidbar Boats/Tim Tyler trad. 2003. Permanent double berth. Loie Fuller is a traditionally styled narrowboat, built by Tim Tyler and fitted by Braidbar who have a reputation for their stylish and distinctive fitouts. Loie Fuller was also a leading light in the world of modern dance a century or more ago, and in keeping with this theme Braidbar's interior joinery has an art deco style to it in both the marquetry inlays of the cupboard doors and drawers, and the external sign writing. The materials used are solid ash T&G throughout and solid pitch pine flooring, giving the boat a light airy, spacious feel. The first owner spared no expense: apart the highly detailed interior joinery the steelwork is equally impressive: scrolled cants and handrails, recessed aft cabin panels, replica rivets, a 15mm baseplate and a josher style bow which is a Tim Tyler speciality. Other spec includes a beautiful enamelled antique but fully functioning multi fuel stove (see photos), central heating and two Victron inverters. Loie Fuller is powered by a classic restored Gardner 2LW operated by traditional push-pull and speedwheel controls. There is a stern cabin with a bench seat and a folding table, which has a solid fuel Epping range to keep the steerer warm in inclement weather and can also be used to cook on - they make fantastic stews!

£74,950. 62ft Roger Farrington/Wharf House Narrowboats trad. 2007. 2 berths: Permanent double which extends to 5ft in width; double sofa bed could be added to saloon to create further sleeping room. Leo is a traditionally styled Narrowboat with pedigree, which was built by the highly regarded Roger Farrington and fitted out to a very high standard by Wharf House Narrowboats of Braunston. Leo has many traditional features such as a fore cabin on the bow. Both the bow and fore cabin are in the Josher style. Although the interior of Leo is very modern, the exterior detailing gives a very traditional feel, with replica rivets and replica engine room doors, ensuring the hull has the look of an old working boat. The fit out of Leo has been skilfully done using ash wood. Leo has a light airy feel, with lots of space which will allow for the purchaser of this fine boat to personalise it with relative ease. Although predominantly a modern interior, there are however a few traditional touches, which again are to the highest standard. The side doors in the galley and saloon have been decorated by Ron Hough of Braunston who is renowned in his field for being the last NurserÕs apprentice signwriter. Leo is powered by a Beta 43, with long bow and long swim, making her a boat that handles like a dream.

£47,500. 58ft cruiser stern Barry Hawkins shell fitted by first owner. 2007. reverse layout 6 berths: Either two singles or King size double in forward cabin; double sofa bed in saloon and double on Pullman dinette. Apparently it took a degree of persuasion before Barry Hawkins - well known and highly regarded for his eye-catching trads - agreed to build a cruiser stern narrowboat. The quality of the steelwork is immediately obvious - good clean lines throughout. The interior fit out by the owners is in the increasingly popular "reverse" lay out style and makes great use of American light ash to give a feeling of light and space. Walking through from the bow of the boat you enter the bedroom, which can either be used as two single berths or made up into a king size double, followed a stylish walk through bathroom complete with full size bath. The galley follows, with a Belfast sink and rich oak worktops and a built-in wine rack. Next is a Pullman dinette which can convert into a small double berth and finally the open plan saloon, with a large sofa and Squirrel multi fuel stove for those cooler evenings. The large 8ft stern deck provides a good outdoor space for friends to socialise when either cruising or just relaxing.

£32,500. 55ft Colecraft narrow beam Dutch Barge style canal boat 1991. 4 berths - permanent double in forward cabin and double on Pullman dinette in saloon. I confess to never having seen a Colecraft built Dutch barge style narrowboat before, but the steelwork looks excellent in line with the standard expected of all Colecraft shells. Similarly the Colecraft fit out is of good quality. The boat has a large amount of equipment installed and the owner's (just one owner since new) original intention was to take it across to the continent. The owner is no longer able to use the boat, and it has lain for a while before being put up for sale. The paintwork is tired and some of the interior woodwork has slight water damage - suggesting that the windows should be resealed. All of this is reflected in the price of this highly equipped boat, which is ideal for a practical person to return to her former glory. A Thornycroft T. 162 4 cylinder diesel provides propulsion.

under offer £32,500. 61ft Peter Nichols traditional narrow boat 1985. 3 berths - permanent double in aft cabin and single bunk in central cabin. An older boat but simply oozing with character and the quality for which Peter Nichols was renowned. The base plate is 12mm steel, so one would expect there to be a good amount of life in that, and the steelwork overall is superb, with long swims that make handling the boat a delight. The interior has all the hallmarks of a Nichols' craft: great attention to detail and clever practical design. The boat is lined with Parana pine which has matured to a deep rich colour. Externally the boat is in good shape, although the roof is in need of repainting. But this is quite simply an enormous amount of quality boat for not a great deal of money. The propulsion comes from a BMC 1.8 4 cylinder diesel.

£34,950. 50ft Colecraft traditional narrow boat 1989. 2 berths - permanent double in aft cabin. The interior is comfortably fitted out making extremely good use of the available space to provide a good sized saloon, breakfast bar and surprisingly large galley area. Heating is provided by a saloon multi fuel stove and the present owner recently installed the latest Alde 3010 compact central heating system, which works off both bottled gas and mains electricity. The gearbox has just been replaced (April 2012). The propulsion comes from a Vetus M4.14 cylinder diesel.

under offer £46,500. 60ft Peter Nichols Steel Boats semi trad 1995. 6 berths. When Peter Nichols was building narrow boats he was widely regarded as one of the finest in the market, both for his high quality steelwork and interior joinery. Khaffra is one of his later examples of narrow boat building before he decided to focus on building steel yachts and barges and although the boat is now 17 years old the quality and durability of the interior still stands out and is in excellent order. Designed as a family boat, there is a permanent double amidships and two under and over bunks in the aft cabin. A bathroom lies between, but the aft cabin also has a small wet room with its own pump out wc and hand basin as well. A further double or two separate single can be provided by the upholstered bench seats in the saloon, and an erectable table can be placed between these for dining. A further removable table fits into the forward cockpit area for al fresco eating and drinking. The boat is heated by a multi fuel Squirrel stove set sensibly at the aft end of the saloon to maximise the spread of heat, and fin rads run throughout the boat heated by an Alde gas central heating system. The craft is powered by a Beta Marine 37.5hp diesel engine.

£82,500. 70ft John Horton (ex Les Allen)/Streethay Wharf trad 2004. Winner of the IWA 2008 Festival "Cressy" award for the best residential boat and the Calor Rose Bowl award for the best galley this fabulous narrowboat is as good as it gets. The 12mm bottomed trad shell is by John Horton - a graduate of Les Allen’s famous Oldbury yard, whilst the fit out by Streethay Wharf is simply some of the best joinery I have seen on a boat - both in attention to detail and robust construction. No expense has been spared in any area, from the electrical installation, the custom built galley with its solid oak worktops, to the well-planned saloon with its reclaimed antique oak plank floor. An impressive fully rebuilt Gardner 4LK graces the engine room and the boatman’s cabin is as faithful a reproduction of the real thing as can be found. The equipment is of the highest specification: a built in Onan 7kVA generator, 3kW inverter, isolation transformer (the ultimate protection against galvanic corrosion). A fabulous boat all round.

£37,500. 60ft Evans and Sons/Professional boat fitter Dutch barge style narrow boat 2001. Survey 2008 available for reference. Designed and used by the first owner as a live aboard craft, the current owners continued the tradition but are now moving to land owing to ill health. The boat is a reverse layout with a good sized saloon. There is a centre cabin with a single berth built in, a walk through bathroom with a shower cubicle and a pump out wc, and a permanent 5ft wide double set crossways in the forward cabin. The cabin sides are lined in a maple wood finish and although the floor is currently a vinyl overlay underneath there is a solid oak floor covered up because their dog tended to skate around on it involuntarily! The boat would benefit from some cosmetic tlc and the exterior paintwork is a bit tired, all of which is reflected in the price, which offers a lot of boat for the money. Originally there was a collapsible wooden wheelhouse but this fell victim to the Blisworth tunnel and has been replaced by a folding pram hood. It could be reinstated with a new one if desired but the current arrangement works well for the present owners. A multi fuel stove also runs the radiators, and an Alde gas boiler provides an alternative means of gaining hot water. The engine is a 40hp Thornycroft Mitsubishi unit.

£45,950. 68ft Equinox Narrowboats trad 1997. 4 berths: permanent double in centre cabin; sofa bed double in saloon. The steelwork of this boat is rugged, built to a high spec with fine lines including an impressive josher style bow with replica rivets. Designed and used as a live aboard narrow boat, the interior is lined out with 3/4" t& g and painted throughout. A large saloon runs through to a galley area with the shower room beyond, and then a permanent double berth in the centre cabin. The engine room contains an impressive looking and sounding late 1940s Dorman 2DL 43hp twin cylinder diesel which was fully rebuilt in 1996. Finally a part boatman's cabin completes the interior cabin space - the drop down table unit is there, the drop down bed area is used instead as a large hanging space for clothing. There are some unusual features: the engine is fed by a 20 litre day tank with no main fuel tank, and is topped up by jerry cans. This ensures that diesel is fresh and reduces the risk of diesel bug. A stylish boat with a great deal of character.

£54,950. Historic working boat and coal/diesel business for sale. "Gosty Hill" was built in 1909 from riveted 1/4" iron plate. Later she was converted to a motor boat and served in the Stewarts and Lloyds fleet as No 103. In recent years the present owners have built a well established and profitable business trading in coal, diesel and sundries throughout the South Midlands, serving the Oxford Canal north of Claydon to Hawkesbury Junction, Braunston, the Coventry Canal to Atherstone and the Ashby Canal to its terminus at Snarestone. The boat was rebottomed at Brinklow Boat Services in late 2005 and the lower section of the counter reconstructed in 2010. A survey last year (for insurance purposes) by Trevor Whitling showed Gosty Hill to be in rude health. The engine is a Dorman 2DWD with a PRM 101 gearbox. The boat and its equipment is all in good working order and included as a part of the sale a supervised trip will provide the necessary introduction to both customers and features concerning the boat. There is stock also available which the owners are willing to sell for a figure in line with currrent trade prices. £79,950. 57ft Marine Technologies cruiser stern. 2003. Reverse layout. Built from Marine grade aluminium in 10mm/10mm/8mm plating, which should mean minimal maintenance, this narrow boat comes highly equipped and is thoroughly modern in style. The boat is powered by a 40hp 4 cylinder Kubota diesel unit marinised by Nannidiesel, transversely mounted in the bow and using a hydraulic drive system to run the propulsion, the 8kVA genset and a twin prop bowthruster. This means that at the steering position at the stern end, the engine is as good as inaudible. The narrow boat is gas free and has a built in hydraulically driven 8kVA genset to run the electric cooking and other appliances. Originally commissioned as a retirement live aboard by the first owners, the interior is thoughtfully planned with a light spacious feel to it.
