Tobias No 2 is a stylish 50ft tug narrowboat which has been cleverly designed to maximise space, and has as much storage as many a 60ft boat I’ve seen.
The steelwork is by Graham Reeves, one the canal’s highly regarded fabricators, with an internal fit out by Mike Walker at Aynho Wharf, near Banbury. The boat has been little used; just 82 hours on the pristine Beta 43hp engine. The interior linings are a blend of off-white finishes and natural oak, with a solid oak floor throughout. The boat is reverse layout, an increasingly popular style. Starting from the front deck, the cabin entrance is through two steel doors with a sliding roof hatch. This drops into the bedroom, which has a large double wardrobe built in, with the under raised tug deck utilised for storage and a set of built in drawers. Next there is a walk through shower room area with a cassette wc, and then the saloon. A stylish modern Morso stove is installed, and further heating can be provided by the diesel fired central heating system, which also produces hot water. The galley follows and is open plan to the saloon. A fridge, washing machine and dishwasher are fitted under the worktops, with mains power being provided by both a 3kW inverter/charger unit and electric hook up.
Both externally and internally this tug narrowboat is in fine condition and has seen only modest use, spending most of its time on the owner’s mooring on the Grand Union. A charming boat that is well worth viewing at the earliest opportunity.
