Dragonfly – 57′ Cruiser stern 2006 – is hidden gem, a 57ft ‘go anywhere’ cruiser stern narrowboat with an equipment specification to match the best boats out there. With a low slung hull design by Dragon Narrowboats of Oswestry and a fitout by Stuart Hodges, Dragonfly’s interior is a very well designed and comfortable living space with no expense spared in the media and electrical department.
Built in 2006, the fitout consists of light oak T&G ceiling and cabin sides, oak faced ply to gunnels and a solid oak floor; this gives a lovely warm feel throughout.
The rear deck is a good size, almost 8 feet long with taff rail surround, the gas locker is here – thus giving lots of storage in the front locker. There is a tonneau cover and wind break for this area. Under the boards is the powerful Barrus Shire 45 – more than adequate for canals and easily able to cope with rivers.
Descending the steps we enter the utility/electrical cupboard. Storage cupboards and shelves are complemeted by the hidden Hotpoint washer dryer. The boats electrical installation is comprehensive, Mastervolt sourced, every electrical need is covered, with a Travelpower genny/ landline and large Trojan based battery supply through the inverter.
Through to the bedroom with its large wardrobe and many drawers, the bed is a double which pulls out to form a king size when the mattress insert is used.
The bathroom lies on the port side with a good sized shower cubicle, vanity unit with ceramic sink and an increasingly popular composting toilet, all heated by a towel rail. A Thetford cassette used to be here so could very easily be re-installed.
The galley comes next with a side hatch, tiled worksurfaces and a double sink. There is a 12v fridge, 4 burner gas hob, oven & grill, a double wine rack and ample storage space.
Then comes the saloon, with its dimmable LED spots, 2 luxurious armchairs with footstools – these convert to 2 single berths. A Morso diesel stove heats the room and an up to date Sony TV sits on a cupboard housing the media centre – Sky Tv and feed from the bedroom DVD player. Speakers are situated throughout the boats’ length.
Up the steps into the front deck area, side lockers double as seats (one of which houses the bow thruster battery), the front locker is accessed from the well deck.
All in all, a lovely boat , with masses of kit, ready to set off on a journey across the system!!!
